Canoeing on the Provo River

Rick loves to canoe, and he knows a place called CLAS Ropes course at the tail end of the Provo River that rents canoes.  He took the oldest 3 kids canoeing while I took Brynlee on a walk around the Provo River Trail (to geocache, of course) while we waited for them to return.

While they were out on the river, on this beautiful summer day, we got a micro burst of wind.  It kind of came out of nowhere, blew very forcefully for about 30 seconds, and then went on it's way.  I remember being worried on my trail, as the wind knocked small branches out of the trees.
I enjoyed seeing these pictures when they got back.

Rick had them all get down, as the canoe was rocking, and who knew if branches would be falling on them, too.  Look at Rayna's hair blowing all around.

When it was deemed safe, Rick tried to make it fun (and not scary) and encouraged them to experience it.  You can see the concern on Rayna's face.

After rafting was over, we took a drive around the lake on a road we've never taken.  It was fine until the sun went down.  The mosquitoes came out in thick clouds.  We had stopped and had our door open and hundreds of mosquitoes came inside our car.  Everyone was screaming and yelling, swatting and slapping.  The road was too narrow to turn around.  We tried the A/C full blast to freeze them out, we tried the heater.  We noticed that there was a huge ball of mosquitoes just hovering above our windshield no matter how slow or fast I went.  Freaky.  The whole time the kids are in the back swatting mosquitoes.

The next morning when we came out to the car, one of the kids said very slowly "Mom, it looks like a mosquito graveyard in here".  And it did.  There were squashed mosquitoes on the car ceiling, walls, windows, seats...sick.

Let's hear it for family MEMORIES!!
